Although we would like to personalize this site by using these children's given names and identifying their country of origin, some governments see this practice as exploitative and embarrassing. To honor this legitimate concern, we have opted to use a number system to identify the children. We tried aliases, but this method was endlessly confusing to everyone. The State of Washington uses a numeric system for such identification and one advantage is that it becomes easy to see which children have waited the longest, as Number 1 will always be Number one. So forgive the "coolness" this system brings while realizing that we are doing our best to honor the wishes of the children's birth countries while communicating with potential families in the least confusing way.
