As promised in your notarized agreement which is part of your dossier, your family must prepare 2 reports per year for the first 2 years, then annually until the child reaches 18 years of age. AAI suggests that the first report be near the time of placement and the second report be written about six months after placement.
Also, your Homestudy Agency needs to complete 3 post placement reports within the first year. Your agency can use their customary international post placement reporting format. Timing should coincide with the first, sixth, and twelfth month of placement.
Your family reports need only be a page or two long and should include near the top:
- Child's birth name
- Child's new American name
- Child's date of arrival in the US
- A number and date of report, i.e. 4th Annual Report, 2015
The post placement report should be about the child and broken down into paragraphs that include information such as:
- Health of the child
- How they like school (if applicable)
- How they have settled into the home (such as routines, meals etc)
- What types of things they like to do, strengths, special talents and interests
Even though there may be some adjustment issues these do not need to be specifically spelled out in this report. The basics and general information is all that is necessary. The report should not include your address or other identifying information including the name of the child's school that could allow someone to locate and contact you.
Photos are a MUST. Please include between 5 and 10 photos. Please do not send the same photos with each new report, but include new, recent photos of the children close up and general activity or in the home photos. Make sure that the photos are clear. Please send your reports to the US office in one of three ways:
- as a hard copy in the mail (with photos printed and included)
- as a newsletter type format which can be printed and includes all the necessary information
- by filling out the on-line post placement report format by clicking here.
Post placement reports are very important to Burkina Faso. Not only have you promised to fulfill this commitment but the fate of future adoptions relies on your cooperation. We thank you very much for this.
